HARLINGEN — Forecasters have issued a fire watch for Saturday for the Mid-Valley and some ranchlands in the aftermath of a strong cold front.

Hidalgo, Starr, Zapata, Jim Hogg and Brooks counties are in the watch area.

The front will bring moderate to strong north winds Saturday and, combined with dew points crashing into the 20s by the afternoon, fire weather will be elevated to critical.

Any fires that develop in the watch area likely will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
