HARLINGEN — A student was taken into custody Friday after school officials found a written message threatening harm to others.

Harlingen school district officials had few details about the message or the student at Harlingen High School South.

“The student that wrote the comment, they know who wrote (it), so they’ve called that person in,” said Shane Strubhart, spokesperson for the district.

“What I understand is that it was a threat to the school,” he said. “All I know is that a threat was made by a student.”

Strubhart didn’t know the age or gender of the student.

Parents were notified of the incident Friday afternoon.

“Harlingen CISD is actively working with the Harlingen Police Department to investigate the credibility of this threat and are taking precautionary measures for the safety of our students and staff,” the statement said. “We encourage our parents, students, and staff to always report anything they may believe is a potential safety concern to administration.”
