There’s a 70 percent chance of heavy rain today and a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms tonight. Occasional cloud to ground lightning strikes are possible.
The favored times for rain are from 10 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. for much of the Rio Grande Valley, with possible lighter rain or drizzle to continue. There is also the chance for occasional lightning.
In areas where heavier bands develop, nuisance flooding of poor drainage areas is possible.
Weather officials advise people setting up for outdoor events during 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to remain on alert for stronger storm cells and to be near a building to be safe.
