Primera to host community yard sale tomorrow

PRIMERA — Rummaging through someone else’s stuff for sale can result in hitting the jackpot — sometimes.

Just a few bucks could mean a huge purchase that can bring a smile to any collector or kid.

A guitar player could come across a vintage six string.

Or a video gamer could come across a stash of games left behind by a son or daughter who’s long moved away and their parents have put their belongings up for sale.

The adage is still a golden rule: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

And curious yard sale shoppers could find what they are looking for or items worth thousands for the price of a few bucks.

All that could happen at Primera City Hall’s community yard sale this weekend.

Booths are still available for those interested in bringing their items to put up for sale.

The sales will take place from 7 to 11 .am. Saturday.

Primera City Administrator Veronica Flores said the yard sale has been very successful for sellers and buyers who have left town very happy with steals and deals.

The city has been hosting the community yard sale for more than a year.

“We don’t have it every month,” Flores said. “It’s more like every three months.”

One of the rarest and most spectacular buys from yard sales over the years was a copy of the Declaration of Independence.

It was bought for $2.48 at a Nashville flea market and sold for nearly half a million dollars at auction.

Legendary Coach Vince Lombardi’s West Point coach’s sweater was purchased for 58 cents.

The sweater sold at auction for $43,020 in New York.

An Andy Warhol sketch was paid for with a $5 bill at a yard sale. It sold for $2 million.

Items like these may not be found in Primera, but you never know.

“We rent out the booths, and the customer brings their stuff for sale,” Flores said.

The sale takes place right out in front of City Hall in the parking lot.

“You don’t have to be a resident of the city to participate,” said David Kusch, Primera mayor. “I know some cities limit the amount of the number of yard sales.”

He said this becomes a giant yard sale if people want to come.

“It provides them another opportunity to sell their merchandise,” Kusch said.
