Edinburg candidate forum scheduled for Sunday

EDINBURG — Candidates here will face off against each other at a forum Sunday.

Valley Interfaith, a local nonprofit, will host a candidate forum at 4 p.m. at Holy Family Church, located at 1302 E. Champion Street in Edinburg.

The public is encouraged to attend and hear candidates address several key issues, including drainage infrastructure, potential safety zones and donations to nonprofits.

The event, dubbed an “accountability session,” will give residents the opportunity to “grade” their potential representatives, organizer Moises Robledo said.

“We have made contact with all the candidates and they all have confirmed except one — Jorge Salinas,” Robledo said Thursday.

Mayoral candidates on the November ballot are Richard Molina, Gina Marie Alamia and incumbent Mayor Richard H. Garcia. Place 1 council candidates are Jorge “Coach” Salinas, Fern “Owls” McClaugherty and Richard Gonzales. Place 2 council candidates are Gilbert Enriquez and Roland Villarreal.

For more information, contact Robledo at (956) 655-0488. No campaign material will be allowed at the event.
