Weslaco city commission hopefuls will take part in a candidate forum to be held on Tuesday.
District 2 Commissioner Greg Kerr and challenger Miguel Wise, the former mayor of Weslaco, will attend the forum.
District 3 incumbent Olga Noriega and candidate Jose P. “JP” Rodriguez confirmed they will take part in the forum, said Doug Croft, CEO and president of the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce.
The public forum will begin at 6 p.m. at the Weslaco Business Visitor and Event Center at 275 S. Kansas Ave. in Weslaco.
Opening comments by Croft will precede moderation by Mid-Valley Town Crier Editor and The Monitor metro editor Michael Rodriguez.
The length of the forum will be about an hour, including opening and closing statements and responses from candidates.
“It’s important for voters to make wise decisions,” Croft said, adding the forum is a way for residents to be familiarized with city candidates.
The Weslaco business community was invited, and the public is encouraged to attend.
“Don’t let cars in the parking lot or anything deter you,” Croft said. “There’s plenty of parking here around the building, and we certainly encourage folks to come.”
Early voting will begin on Monday, Oct. 23 with Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The forum will be televised on KWES, the school district’s TV station, through Election Day, Croft said.
