Moser out as Vipers coach
McALLEN — The Houston Rockets informed Clay Moser on Tuesday afternoon that they have decided not to retain him the Vipers head coach.
Moser said Tuesday night that Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey called him to let him know his one-year tenure as the Vipers’ coach is over. The Rockets purchased the basketball operations from the Vipers earlier this summer.
“I asked them specifically what they thought I was missing, what were they looking for,” Moser said. “Morey said it wasn’t so much that but they found someone experienced and accomplished, and they were surprised that person became a candidate.”
Moser was 21-29 in his only season with Rio Grande Valley. There is no word on who Moser’s replacement will be. Morey was not immediately available for comment late Tuesday night.
