Houston recalls Dorsey from Vipers

McALLEN - The Houston Rockets have recalled rookie power forward Joey Dorsey from their NBA Development League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Dorsey, a 6-foot-9, 268-pound second-round pick out of Memphis, averaged 9.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in seven games with the Vipers. He was assigned to RGV on Dec. 26.

"The Rockets have an exteneded home stretch coming up so they just wanted him to be there for as much of that as he could be," Vipers coach Clay Moser said. "I've spoken to some people in the Rockets organization and they're very pleased with how the time went and the progress he was able to make in the time he was here to get back on the floor and get his timing back and wind up. The word they used with me is they have 'unofficially' said he may be back."

With Dorsey being recalled, and the recent loss of Smush Parker to China, the Vipers (7-13) have nine players on their roster heading into Wednesday night's game against Colorado at Dodge Arena in Hidalgo. Moser said the team is working diligently to fortify the roster. RGV has lost its last five games.
