EDINBURG — Sam Street pitched his fourth-straight complete game of the season to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team to a win in its Great West Conference home opener, 7-1, over the Chicago State University Cougars on Friday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Street (7-1) struck out 12 while allowing one run on three hits and one walk in nine innings. He didn’t allow a hit over his final five innings of work. Street ranks second in the NCAA with five complete games this season.

The Cougars (4-20, 1-4 Great West Conference) got their run in the top of the third, but the Broncs (13-15, 4-1 GWC) answered right back against Dylan Sterrett (0-7) in the bottom of the inning. With two on and one out, the Broncs collected four-straight hits, a two-run double by Shane Ammon, an RBI-single by Alex Howe, a single by Klausing and an RBI-single by Jacob Huckabay to make it 4-1.

Aaron Moore was a part of the Broncs’ final three runs, scoring on an error in the fourth and hitting sacrifice flies in the fifth and seventh innings.

Klausing and Huckabay reached three times each, with Klausing going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Huckabay going 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch. Huckabay also made two above average plays while playing well in his third start at third base this season. Ammon and Shane Klemcke each went 2-for-4.

The Broncs and Cougars continue this four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Game one is scheduled to last seven innings while game two is slated for the full nine. Gates open at 2 p.m.
