The lead didn't last long, as the home team scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth. Fox led off with a double. After a pop out, Fox stole third. Brian Nichols grounded out, and it looked like Bobby Darling might get out of the inning unscathed when Stephen Ward hit a grounder to second, but it was bobbled, allowing a run to score and the inning to continue. Miguel Peguero followed with a slow ground ball back to the mound that was thrown away, allowing Ward to advance to third. The home team completed the scoring in the bottom of the ninth when Terry Roblez and Brian Nichols singled with one out. A walk to Ward loaded the bases for Griffin, who hit a grounder to third, but the throw to second was dropped, so no outs were recorded as a run scored. One batter later, Fox unloaded the bases with a three-run double to make it 12-2.
Joey Cress got the win with three innings of relief in which he allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out one.
Jorge Lugo started for the home team and pitched three scoreless frames while allowing one hit and striking out three.
The WhiteWings open the season on Tuesday in Alexandria against the two-time defending United League Champion Aces, who swept the WhiteWings in the championship series last year.
