Lady Broncs suffer big loss to end regular season
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — An opening 3 by Maria Ben Erlingsdottir was the only lead the University of Texas Pan American held as North Dakota Fighting Sioux (16-13, 11-1) defeated UTPA 101-61 on Saturday.
Harlingen South grad Bianca Torre led the Lady Broncs with 18 points. Senior Aleeya Grigsby recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Rose Esther Jean contributed eight points and eight rebounds for UTPA (12-16, 7-4).
North Dakota (16-13, 11-1), who earned a bye at the Great West Conference Championships, shot 48 percent from the field, 56 percent from behind the arc, and 76 percent from the line.
UND finished with all five starters in double-figures. Mallory Youngblut scored a game-high 27 points, Jossy Bergan 20, Kayla Bagaason 19, Whitney Ledger 17, and Alys Seay 10 points. Ledger was the only Sioux to post a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Broncs earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament and faces the No. 7 seed on Thursday.
