The Rio Grande Valley Vipers set another NBA D-League record on Thursday, defeating Austin 111-100 for their 19th consecutive regular season win dating back to last season.
The previous record had been 18, set by Idaho in 2007-2008. The Vipers have won 25 straight games, including playoffs, dating back to last season.
RGV (9-0) overcame another cold shooting night (38.5 percent field goal shooting, 32.3 from 3) and relied on offensive rebounding (25) and a plus-10 advantage in free-throw makes to win. Three Vipers had double-doubles, led by James Johnson’s 24 points and 16 rebounds. He also added six assists and two blocks.
Dario Hunt had 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Houston Rockets assignee Robert Covington finished with 11 and 10, respectively. Chris Johnson led all scorers with 27 points.
The Toros (3-4) had 19 turnovers to RGV’s 11 and were outrebounded 59-54.
