Bees fall to Laredo 5-3

LAREDO 5, BEES 3: At Laredo, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (17-15-5) fell to the Laredo Bucks (14-22-0) by 5-3 final on Friday night. After trailing by three the Bees rallied to tie the game in the third period but a goal with five seconds left in the second proved to be the game winner.

The Laredo Bucks started the scoring off with three straight strikes. Laredo earned their run with a shorthanded goal by Matt Boyd at the 8:03 mark of the first period.

During the second period Neil Trimm scored on a power-play to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead just 59 seconds into the period. At the 5:10 mark of the second, the Bucks increased their lead to three goals as Matt Pierce used some nifty stick work in front of the net to deflect the puck past Wylie Rogers.

The second half of the second period was all Bees as Dan Gendur struck twice and Tyler Barr scored his first of the season.

Dan Gendur scored his first of the night at the 9:10 mark slapping home a pass from Tomas Klempa.

Gendur struck just three minutes later at 12:53 as he slid a puck past Laredo netminder Torrie Jung.

Tyler Barr scored his first of the season to tie the game at three as he backhanded a breakaway goal to the back of the net. Kirill Startsev picked up an assist in his first Bees game.

Laredo would score their second power-play goal of the game with only seconds left in the second period to take the 5-3 lead.

The late second period goal would hold as the Bees were unable to find the equalizer in the third period.

The Bees and Bucks meet again Saturday afternoon with a 4 p.m. puck drop from the Laredo Energy Arena.
