Grandes predict victory over Sockers

From RGV Grandes Reports

EDINBURG — RGV Grandes central defender Mario Zamora says the West Texas United Sockers, who the Grandes play at 8 p.m. today at Edinburg Stadium, are a “big , fast and strong team” but the Grandes should be up to the task of taking them on. The center back, who along with Brian Hardie anchors the backline that has been very stingy in giving up goals, expects more of the same against the Sockers. Zamora predicts the Grandes will win 1-0 or 2-1, pointing to the importance of the home team drawing first blood.

Newcomer Marco Ruiz says the speed and intensity of PDL play is more than what he is accustomed to in local league play, but he welcomes the challenge and likewise expects a tough game against the Sockers. The Odessa-based team won the last meetings between the teams 2-1 in a match referred to by their coach as “one of the greatest games” he’d ever watched.
