Indoor football talks progressing
HIDALGO — Indoor football’s return to State Farm Arena took another step on Tuesday.
Chad Dittman, the owner and president of the Indoor Football League’s Corpus Christi Hammerheads, met with arena general manager James Bricker and Hidalgo City Manager Joe Vera to discuss placing a team in Hidalgo for the 2011 season. Both sides are optimistic a deal will be reached by the end of the month and could be voted on by the City of Hidalgo-Texas Municipal Facilities Corporation, which owns the arena, at its July 27 meeting.
Dittman said the two sides later this week will begin exchanging numbers concerning the costs of renting the facility for a team.
“Everything went well (Tuesday),” Dittman said. “Now we’re just going to try to work out the numbers on it, which isn’t that difficult once you decide that you want to do business together.”
To get the final approval for placing a team at State Farm Arena, any plan would have to be approved by the TMFC. At the TMFC’s next board meeting, scheduled for July 13, Bricker hopes to be able to provide “preliminary information” about the efforts to bring a football team back to the arena.
