Broncs Diary: UTPA’s roster sports hip-hop star
Comments 0 | Recommend 0EDINBURG -- Adrian Garza juggles three difficult jobs -- University of Texas-Pan American student, relief pitcher for the Broncs and a rapper and composer of hip-hop music in South Texas.
"We usually have about 3,000 people when we perform in big shows. That matches the baseball crowd we had in Fort Worth last week," Garza said.
Next week, the Broncs play host to the Independent Baseball Tournament. Garza, who has one win and one save, is likely to pitch. He is the only regular pitcher with no losses.
A three-sports athlete at PSJA High, he was offered college scholarships in football, basketball and baseball.
Garza helped lead the Bears to the third round of the state baseball playoffs three times, and to the regional final once.
He is also the rapper known as Future, and he teams with D-Rich (Daniel Richardson) to form the gorup "Dem ATM Boyz."
Garza and Richardson have performed hip-hop all over the Valley. Like sports, hip-hop is a world of its own, very bling.
"We have our own personal studio now and we play at a lot of private paries," Garza said.
Then he added, "We have a lot better baseball team than the record shows. We played good teams and there were many games that could have gone in our favor. We want to win the tournament here next week."
The Broncs Diary runs in The Monitor every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
