Bees take down Brahmas

Killer Bees Reports

HIDALGO - Aaron Lee scored twice and Grant Gockner-Zoeller had a goal and two assists as the Killer Bees beat Texas 5-2 on Friday night at Dodge Arena.

Jesse Bennefield netted his ninth goal on the season late in the first period on the power play at 14:02 with assists from Goeckner-Zoeller and Nathan Ansell. Goeckner-Zoeller followed with another power play goal just 42 seconds later to give the Bees the early 2-0 lead, but Grant Jacobsen fired back with just 1:30 left in the frame to put the Brahmas within one going into the second.

Lee picked up his first goal of the night, a shorthanded tally, at the 3:53 mark in the second period with the help of Zak McClellan, but AJ Gale posted a power play goal at 5:23 in the frame to put Texas within one at 3-2 going into the final period.

It was all RGV in the third, with Lee nabbing his second of the night at 6:39 with Sean Muncy and McClellan on the assists and Daymen Rycroft followed at 8:07 to give the Bees the 5-2 lead and eventual victory.

Wylie Rogers picked up his fourth win in net with 25 saves, while Brett Jaeger suffered the loss with 25 saves.

The Bees play host to Odessa at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday night. The first 1,000 fans receive adult jerseys courtesy of San Juan Pharmacy.
