Treviño beats Hopkins by submission

McALLEN — Edinburg’s Frank Treviño improved to 5-0 after defeating Larry Hopkins with a kneebar halfway through the first round of Saturday night’s South Texas Fighting Championships 8 Fired Up show at the McAllen Convention Center.

STFC promoter Paul Olmeda said Treviño was in control throughout before catching Hopkins (2-4-1) with the submission hold.

Danny Salinas, also from Edinburg, won his bout with a first-round TKO.

Olmeda said the Convention Center was at approximately three-quarters full and had plenty of energy.

“It didn’t get completely full, but I’ll take it,” Olmeda said. “It was a good crowd. Everybody responded well. Everyone was happy.”
