NEW YORK — The NBA Development League named Rio Grande Valley Vipers rookie forward Glen Rice Jr. as its Performer of the Week. It’s the first time he’s received this honor.

Rice averaged 24.0 points on 48 percent shooting from the floor to go with 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 36.7 minutes as the Vipers went 3-0 last week.

He had 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 115-111 win over the Iowa Energy last Tuesday. The next night, he had 29 points and 11 rebounds in a 118-110 victory over the Austin Toros.

Rice was considered for the honor along with Austin’s JaMychal Green, Bakersfield’s Jerel McNeal, Canton’s Kyle Gibson, Erie’s Mustapha Shakur, Fort Wayne’s Tony Mitchell, Idaho’s Justin Holiday, Iowa’s Chris Wright, Los Angeles’ Courtney Fortson, Maine’s DaJuan Summers, Reno’s Samardo Samuels, Santa Cruz’s Cameron Jones, Springfield’s Kris Joseph, Sioux Falls’ James Mays, Texas’ Sean Singletary and Tulsa’s Daniel Orton, who is on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Rice will next play on Wednesday when the Vipers travel to Idaho.
