Writing an Obituary

More than merely a 'good-bye' to the deceased, this is a farewell which details in chronological order, the life of the deceased. An obituary also serves as notification that an individual has passed away and details of the services that are to take place.

Important information to include in the obituary:

  • Deceased's full name (include nickname if any)
  • Age a time of death
  • Date and place of death
  • Location where the deceased resided
  • Complete service information including date, time and location
  • Visitation information
  • Additional information such as where the body will be laid to rest and names of the pallbearer or honorary pallbearer.
  • Names of the survivors and their location - parents, spouse and children, siblings, and grandparents
  • A recap of the person's life, education, job history, memberships, hobbies, awards and miscellaneous information
  • Memorials including the name and address to assist in making contributions

Writing an Obituary Card of Thanks
