Although we are all waiting to hear who the president of the new University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will be, we might soon find out who will lead the medical school.
An announcement could be made regarding the new dean as early as next month, Karen Adler, assistant director of public affairs for The University of Texas System, on Wednesday told a member of The Monitor’s editorial board.
Making decisions of this magnitude take considerable time and effort and it is evident that university officials are doing all they can to ensure that the best candidates for all posts are chosen.
Logistically, Adler tells us that it has been challenging to coordinate getting all of the finalist candidates for the medical dean position to South Texas, Austin and San Antonio for the necessary interviews. But sit tight, because she says a new dean could be named in February.
“There are multiple candidates that have to meet with people in the Valley and Austin and San Antonio,” Adler told us. “But it’s not at all like we’ve delayed it because of a complication ... In fact the search is going very well.”
“Bear with us because this is a massive initiative and a massive effort,” she said of all the impending hires.
Will do and that’s encouraging news.
She said the new president for UT-RGV should be named during the spring semester.
We can’t wait.
