Inmates shouldn't be spoiled

The Monitor

To the editor:

This is crazy! Quit spending tax payers’ money like there is no tomorrow — an open check book, looking forward to bankruptcy in housing inmates in these private (meaning big bills for the county, money makers for the owners) detention facilities! I say this, if it can work in Maricopa County, it can work in Hidalgo County. These people are law breakers and yet the county rewards them with air conditioning, clean sheets/cells and three hot, square meals a day, television with sports, movies and whatever channels they can get and want. Hidalgo County, wake up! We have people of different races living in totally uncomfortable places, eating whenever they can, no air conditioning at times and working for some if hardly any for the job they are doing carrying pounds of gear on their backs in above 100 degree weather. Those are our military people! Solve your problems, build a huge retaining fence in the worst of our areas, put up huge tents with mosquitoes nets sleeping on cots, serve them sandwiches with water, cut the coffee, etc., also cut giving them the weather and Disney channel. They are inmates, lawbreakers, whatever and treat them as such and if they don’t like it, don’t break the law, and don’t come back! Mr. Silguero, you need to implement their methods, use chain gangs, save taxpayers millions and treat lawbreakers accordingly and not as guests of the county.
