Local police should do more on rape cases

To the editor:

I applaud all the outstanding articles I have read this past month related to sexual abuse. However, feel good articles about night time vigils, men walking in high heels, etc., really does nothing when local law enforcement continues to be blind to the crime of sexual abuse.

I have found both the McAllen and Edinburg police departments to be totally uncooperative and to treat rape as a joke in relation to a recent rape report. Even when given the name and address of the rapist, they choose to do nothing.

I guess it’s easier to write jaywalking tickets than to investigate a rape.

Steven J. Zak,
McAllen
