McAllen should listen to voters on parks

To the editor:

What is the purpose of a city election if after the citizens have voted against a certain proposal, the city decides to continue to pursue its intentions?

The citizens went out to vote and the majority do not want the Westside Park sold or the Botanical Garden used for a purpose other than its intended purpose, to protect the native flora and fauna.

Please be advised that those of us who voted to keep the Botanical Garden want it to be reopened and operating. The fact that the McAllen Garden Center was at one time a gathering place for those who engaged in illegal activity is no reason to keep McAllen families away from it.

If the city does its job, it will reclaim it just the way it reclaimed Archer Park when it was taken over by people of ill repute several years ago.

Respectfully,

Argelia A. Hinojosa-Gonzalez

McAllen
