To the editor:
Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally in Washington, D.C., created quite a stir among Democrats and the liberal media. Even liberal Geraldo conceded that Beck hit a home run.
Kudos to Tammy Rosales for spearheading a local event to honor our RGV vets, which makes me wonder why anyone would be opposed to that. According to the Sunday Monitor, Hidalgo County Democratic Chairwoman Dolly Elizondo took issue, blaming Bush and Republican rhetoric! Apparently, she didn’t get the word that this was not a political rally, but a call for a return to those values of faith, hope and charity (love) that has made America great.
According to Elizondo, we don’t need to restore honor to our government. Well, let’s just mention a few names: Representatives Charles Rangel and Maxine Waters. Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, has released its 2009 list of Washington’s “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians,” which includes nine Dems out of the list of 10! Go to http://worthreading-blog.blogspot. com/2010/08/corruption9-out-of-10-are-democrats. html to read the entire list. Locally, let’s remember Sylvia Handy, Kino Flores and State Rep. Juan Hinojosa, who put himself above the law by illegally carrying a concealed handgun on an airline more than once — and acted indignant when he was exposed! Let’s not forget voting irregularities in Palm View and Starr County — all Dems.
Hidalgo County is run by the Democratic Party that has a strangle hold on our local politics. Remember, they picked ONE candidate to replace Sylvia Handy and refused to allow any other candidates to run for her seat. Never mind Hidalgo County voters having their choice at the voting booth. Yet, Chairwoman Elizondo doesn’t think we need to restore honor to our government and then — surprise! — blames Bush!
Elizondo doesn’t seem to realize this wasn’t a Republican event, yet she blames Bush and “Republican rhetoric,” which illustrates the Democratic weapon of choice: when you don’t have a leg to stand on, point to someone else to blame. That will take the heat off of you.
Instead of uniting behind those who believe honor does need to be restored to this government filled with leaders putting themselves above the law and continuing to do what is right in their own eyes, Ms. Elizondo accuses Republicans and Bush and chooses to scoff at the belief that there is government corruption — and chooses not to honor our RGV vets.
Perhaps if Elizondo would look, she might see why Hidalgo County is seen with derision by the rest of the state and lay some of the blame on the Democratic Party in Hidalgo County.
