NEAR WESLACO — A man was shot and killed in broad daylight Monday near a colonia north of Weslaco, authorities said.

The man was shot after what appeared to be a dispute between two groups of men; one group was in a black Nissan, the other in a Chevrolet Tahoe on Mile 13 east of FM 88 about 4 p.m., Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño.

“The conversation turned sour and the guns came out and one (man) ended up shot,” Treviño said.

The suspects fled and left the unidentified man by the side of the road.

Treviño said authorities are working to identify the victim with the U.S. Border Patrol and searching for the other men involved.

This is the fourth murder in Hidalgo County so far this year.
