Drug seizures in Weslaco, Hidalgo
WESLACO — Police arrested a 46-year-old man accused of selling cocaine out of a residence north of the city.
Joel Salas Munoz, of Weslaco, was arrested after the Weslaco Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit obtained a warrant to search 10206 N. Farm-to-Market 88 about 3 p.m. Saturday, police spokesman David Molina said. Inside the house, officers found about 95 grams of cocaine and $6,500 in cash.
Munoz was arrested on a count of possession of a controlled substance, Molina said. He was arraigned by a municipal court judge, who set bond at $50,000.
HIDALGO — U.S. Border Patrol Agents on horseback discovered nearly 200 pounds of marijuana hidden in the brush.
Agents assigned to the McAllen station were on horse patrol near the Hidalgo port of entry Friday evening when they found the drugs with a street value of $152,000, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release says. The marijuana was likely hidden in the brush until it could be transported at a later time.
The Border Patrol uses horses to navigate rugged terrain along the Rio Grande that vehicles can’t access, the release says. It’s still one of the agency’s most effective means of drug and illegal immigrant interdiction.
