The Border Theatre Group, Inc. invites the community to attend a series of movie presentations called “The 12 Movies of Christmas,” starting with A Christmas Story (1983) on Friday, December 7th at 9 p.m. and on Saturday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. These holiday movies are free to the public but donations are accepted. Also, bring in an unwrapped toy and receive a free bag of popcorn! The toys will be distributed to local needy families this Christmas. The last of the “12 Movies of Christmas” will be Tuesday, December 25th at 7:15 p.m. For a complete showcase of movies and times, log onto www.bordertheatre.com

Before each movie begins, there will be a brief presentation on the efforts of Border Theatre Group, Inc. and an opportunity for individuals to purchase a “Friends of the Border Theatre” membership to be part of this campaign effort. Concessions will be open at every event. For more information, contact Roberto Peña at 956-458-6031.

Border Theatre Group, Inc. is currently working in conjunction with Inter-city Christian Youth Program (ICYP), a local non-profit youth organization that utilizes the arts as a means of crime prevention for at-risk Upper Valley teens, to help launch the “Save the Border Theatre” campaign.

The purpose and mission of the Border Theatre Group, Inc. is to share the expression of the human experience found in art, music, history, film and live theatre with the local community. This can be achieved through the coordination of a variety of programs and events to attract communities and individuals to visit the Border Theatre. In doing so, the facility will be utilized as a place to showcase both live performances featuring local musical groups, theatrical groups, artists as well as the showing of films to bring about a deeper understanding and cultural awareness within our communities living in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

“We are seeking the help of elected officials, businesses and other organizations who are interested in donating funds that will help keep the Border Theatre doors open as a community center where people can enjoy all various forms of Fine Arts,” says Lizette Martinez, a Board Member of Border Theatre Group, Inc.

A special fund has been set up with the International Bank of Commerce. Please make checks payable to: Inter-city Christian Youth Program (Save the Border Theatre fund).
