McALLEN — Electronics retailer CompUSA is set to shut its doors once the Christmas season ends, shortly after remodeling and expanding its McAllen store.

The Dallas-based store chain was sold to restructuring firm Gordon Brothers, which plans to sell off the stores shortly after the New Year.

With Christmas being the store’s last shopping season, Gordon Brothers said it will offer deep discounts on merchandise, winding down until the stores are liquidated and sold.

In November, the local store on Expressway 83 near La Plaza Mall opened a remodeled location, nearly doubling its size.

However, the struggling retailer, which specializes in computers, has failed in recent years to keep up with other electronics retailers like Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
