Sheriff's office investigating possible armed robbery

NEAR McALLEN – The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged armed robbery late Friday night just outside of the McAllen city limits.

According to preliminary information, a man was driving a white Astro van along Farm-to-Market Road 107 just west of Ware Road when at least three vehicles boxed him in. Occupants in the vehicles were brandishing assault weapons and firing shots into the air, the man told deputies.

The gunmen allegedly took the van, leaving the man behind. He then called the McAllen Police Department, which contacted the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found one spent bullet casing from a pistol-caliber weapon.

The vehicles were described as a red pickup, a red automobile and a maroon SUV.
