Man killed at Pharr check cashing business
PHARR — Police are investigating the shooting death of a 30-year-old man who was killed at a check-cashing business Wednesday evening.
Pharr police responded to the shooting about 7 p.m. at the business at the intersection of Fir Street and Evans Avenue, officials said.
Justice of the Peace Rosa Treviño, who was at the scene while police swept through the area, said a customer who was refused service apparently shot the man.
Police said the customer showed up that evening and asked the victim to cash a personal check. The victim explained that he was out of cash and the shooter later returned and shot the man in the chest, officials said.
Police are looking for a maroon and brown 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe or a GMC Yukon bearing Texas license plate number PMP744.
No further details were available as Wednesday evening.
