EDINBURG - District 40 Rep. Aaron Peña, D-Edinburg, officially kicked off his re-election campaign last week.

The announcement came during a kickoff party held Thursday at the Echo Hotel in Edinburg, according to a campaign release.

"I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support from family friends and my community," Peña said in a statement. "...I look forward to continue serving this district with honor and energy."

Edinburg Democrat Eddie Saenz will challenge Peña for the District 40 seat. Saenz officially kicked off his campaign on October 29.

Peña was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2002. He is seeking a fourth term in office, according to a campaign release.

The Democratic Party will hold its primary election to choose its candidate in March.
