Valleywide newspaper planned; Power outages delay printing of papers

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Due to widespread power outages caused by Hurricane Dolly, none of the Rio Grande Valley's five daily papers -- all of which were to be printed at The Monitor Wednesday night and Thursday morning -- will be delivered until Thursday afternoon.

Additionally, a Valley-wide newspaper will be printed this afternoon due to problems caused by Hurricane Dolly in other parts of the Valley.

The frequency of powerages through Wednesday evening and the expectation that they would continue well into Thursday morning at The Monitor's offices at Jackson and Nolana in McAllen made it impossible to sustain press operations, meaning The Monitor, The Brownsville Herald, Valley Morning Star, El Nuevo Heraldo and La Frontera could not be printed overnight for morning delivery.

All five papers were to be printed at The Monitor due to the loss of power in Harlingen and Brownsville.

We will begin printing all five dailies later Thursday morning, after the storm has sufficiently subsided, and they will be delivered Thursday afternoon. Normal morning service for all five papers should resume in time for Friday morning's editions.

We regret the inconvenience this causes all Monitor, Star, Herald, Nuevo Heraldo and La Frontera readers.

Also, please note that the customer service department for the five papers will not open until about noon Thursday due to Hurricane Dolly's continuing effects. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
