Mission soldier’s funeral still pending

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

MISSION - Funeral arrangements for U.S. Army Spc. Jose "Joe" Rubio have not yet been finalized.

The Mission native died Sunday in Baghdad.

His body has not yet been returned to the United States, according to the family's service officer, Army Master Sgt. Lee R. Maloy, an ROTC instructor at the University of Texas-Pan American.

The city of Mission is helping to coordinate a flag-raising and vigil later this week outside the City Flower Shop, a Conway Avenue store owned by the family of Rubio's widow, Jennifer.

A date and time for that ceremony likely will be set today.
