Mexican state and federal law enforcement in Reynosa on Monday rescued a U.S. citizen who was kidnapped June 1.

The 27-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen, was rescued outside of a Reynosa mall as the kidnappers waited for the delivery of ransom money, a Tamaulipas state government news release said.

She told authorities she was kept tied up for eight days.

Police arrested a total of seven people in connection with the kidnapping. Two men were arrested as they tried to run away from the foiled ransom exchange and escape in a van where two other men were waiting, the news release said.

Those four men are:

>> Erick Alan García Villarreal, 19

>> Jorge Arturo García Correa, 20

>> Jesús Antonio Hernández Villanueva, 25

>> Gerardo Avila Hernández, 30

Two other men and a 14-year-old girl were arrested police determined they were sharing law enforcement’s locations to the kidnappers, the release said.

The 14-year-old girl also told police she delivered food to different houses where the kidnapped people were being kept.

The two men arrested are Jorge Luis Flores Islas, 18, and Juan Osel Navarro Alemán, 29. The name of the 14-year-old girl was not released.
