U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than $6.6 million worth of marijuana — nearly 8,400 pounds — over the weekend.
The largest seizure occurred at the Falfurrias checkpoint, where agents arrested a man found with about 3,500 pounds of marijuana in a tractor-trailer, according to an agency news release sent Monday.
Agents also recovered a vehicle heading away from the Rio Grande on Saturday near Los Ebanos. Upon finding the vehicle abandoned, agents seized about 1,400 pounds of marijuana.
Other seizures between Friday and Sunday brought the total amount of marijuana seized to nearly 8,400 pounds across the Rio Grande Valley sector, which covers the river from Roma to Brownsville and up the Gulf Coast north of Corpus Christi.
