EDINBURG — Sheriff’s investigators arrested a former Mission Police corporal accused of taking money from people seeking to have DWI records expunged.
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Carlos Celadon on Friday, after which he was formally charged by Justice of the Peace Ismael “Melo” Ochoa with two counts of theft, court records show.
Celadon is accused of promising to have cases dismissed and records removed in exchange for a monetary donation.
Court records show that the man, who is a former Mission Police corporal, received close to $5,000 from two men seeking to have their DWI charges removed from their criminal record. The records were never removed.
The sheriff’s Public Integrity Unit took part in the case and determined that court personnel were not involved in the scheme, a news release shows.
