NEAR ELSA — Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies continue to look into the shooting of a suspected burglar by a homeowner.

Deputies responded to a call of shots fired Wednesday night at the 18000 block of Mile 6 West just north of Elsa, a news release shows.

At the scene, deputes found Alberto Dominguez, the homeowner, who was holding three teenagers at bay with a shotgun. The teenagers, who were all underage, told deputies that they had gone there to steal property from Dominguez's shed.

Dominguez told deputies that he saw unknown individuals by his storage shed and fired a shotgun once at the group, the release shows. Right after the first shot, he heard someone yell out "we give up," which is when Dominguez held the teens until authorities arrived.

Investigators have sought the help of the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether the shooting was justified.
