McALLEN — Gov. Rick Perry will visit the University of Texas-Pan American and the University of Texas at Brownsville on Tuesday, July 16 for a ceremonial signing of the bill that joins the two institutions.
Perry initially signed the historic legislation on June 14. While Senate Bill 24 merges UTPA and UTB, it also establishes a regional medical school here that promises a significant impact on education, healthcare and the economy.
The ceremonial signing at UTPA, hosted by President Robert Nelsen, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the UTPA Student Union Theater and will include remarks. A reception will follow at 10:30 a.m.
The ceremonial signing event hosted in Brownsville by President Juliet Garcia is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Texas Southmost College Arts Center, followed by a reception at 2 p.m.
