EDINBURG — A man who was kidnapped last Tuesday managed to escape from his captors Monday morning, authorities say.
Hidalgo County sheriff’s investigators are working to identify the kidnappers and locate the area where 44-year-old Juan Pedro Borjas was kept, Sheriff Lupe Treviño said.
So far, investigators have a warrant for Jose Juan Mendoza, 35, on the charge of aggravated kidnapping.
Borjas was kidnapped last Tuesday evening from his home in the 8600 block of Mile 6 West Road by two gunmen who forced him into a dark-colored SUV. Shortly after being taken, Borjas called his wife telling her that he had been kidnapped and that the gunmen were demanding a large ransom. Investigators have not released the specific amount demanded.
Borjas was found Monday morning in the Edinburg area by police officers from the Edinburg school district and appears to be in good health, Treviño said.
Investigators are in the process of interviewing him and establishing a timeline of events, the sheriff said. Additional information was expected to be released Tuesday.
