EDINBURG — Deputies with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office raided a home north of Monte Cristo Road on Wednesday afternoon but did not find the man they were looking for.

They raided the home in the 1200 block of 22 1/2 Mile Road because investigators had information that the house belonged to Jose Juan Mendoza, who is wanted for the kidnapping of 44-year-old Juan Pedro Borjas.

Borjas was kidnapped from his Weslaco property Feb. 11 but escaped his captors Monday and is now cooperating with investigators. Sheriff Lupe Treviño said they raided the home after an investigation into the kidnapping led to that address.

“We believe this is where he was stashed those two nights,” Treviño said Wednesday outside the home.

Treviño went on to warn the public that Mendoza is considered armed and dangerous and should under no circumstances be approached. Treviño would not say whether officers found any drugs or weapons inside the home.
