NEAR EDINBURG — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit arrested a member of the Vallucos prison gang during a search at his property, where they found four bundles of marijuana and a shotgun.
The seizure took place at 1:22 a.m. Saturday in the 12000 block of Lemon Drive when sheriff’s investigators received information that the Vallucos gang had stashed drugs at that address, according to a news release.
Investigators and members of the tactical patrol unit went to the address and spoke with the owner, 37-year-old Juan Carlos “Johnny” Garcia, who gave them permission to search the house. Authorities found the four bundles of marijuana — hidden in two trashcans — that weighed 66 pounds. They also found a 12-gauge shotgun.
Garcia was arrested and charged with one count of possession of marijuana and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bonds were set at a total of $60,000.
“Drug dealing continues to be a major money maker for our local gangs,” Sheriff Lupe Treviño said in a written statement. “Even though this is not a large and significant blow to the Valluco Gang, it demonstrated that we will act on the least information in our efforts against gang activity.”
