ELSA — The city's long-awaited new H-E-B supermarket is set to open Friday morning.
City officials and community leaders along with the general public are invited to a grand opening at 9 a.m. Friday at the new location, 512 E. Edinburg, Elsa.
The new, 43,000-square-foot store is nearly double the size of the old location, offering a broader selection of goods and more departments.
H-E-B said in a news release that the new store will create 62 new jobs and employ 172 people.
Expanded offerings include a bakery and deli with ready-made food, dairy and frozen foods, beer and wine, a meat market, drive-thru pharmacy and business center. Retail space adjacent to the store will be available for lease.
H-E-B said it will donate a total of $34,000 to the Elsa Public Library, Edcouch-Elsa ISD, the City of Elsa and its volunteer fire department at Friday's ceremony.
