SAN JUAN — Investigators believe a man killed in a two-car crash Tuesday caused the collision by running a stop sign.

The man, a Mexican national in his late 30s, died instantly as a red Ford F-150 hit his green Chevrolet Suburban just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Cesar Chavez and Ridge roads, San Juan police Investigator Rolando Garcia said.

His name has not yet been released, pending the notification of family members.

“His car rolled over,” Garcia said. “And he was pinned between the roof of the vehicle and a telephone pole.”

Early autopsy results indicate the driver died of skull injuries sustained during the collision, Garcia said.

His passenger was hospitalized with minor injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

Emergency responders treated the driver of the Ford at the scene.

While investigators did not find any indication alcohol may have played a role in the crash, Garcia would not rule out the possibility Tuesday afternoon until a full autopsy report was complete.
