STARR COUNTY -- Authorities are investigating a three-vehicle crash that resulted in a triple fatality along U.S Highway 83 near the Starr and Zapata county line.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Johnny Hernandez, the driver of a GMC SUV traveling north along the highway lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a white Chevrolet pickup and a Ford F150 that was behind it. The crash resulted in the death of Jesus Ruiz, of McAllen, who was driving the SUV, as well as Sergio Arellano and Edith Ledezma, both of Laredo, who were passengers in the pickup.
