DONNA — Flame of Truth Ministry is holding a vehicle donation drive. If you or anyone you know have a car, truck or any type of vehicle sitting around and you would like to get rid of it (running or not, damaged but tow-able), donate it to a worthy cause. The vehicles must have some kind of title. Vehicles will be run through auction and all proceeds will go to the Flame of Truth Ministry. We will provide a tax deductible receipt for your donation. DONNA — The Mission Possible Youth Center of the Lighthouse Church is reaching out to the youth in surrounding colonias. In order to keep young people out of trouble, there is a soccer program started. There will be practice on Fridays and games on Saturdays. The teams will be playing in other church and/or community teams. Donations of soccer equipment, shoes, shirts, shorts and referee fees are needed. ELSA — New nationwide report reveals that Self-Help Groups can help support people battling addictive behaviors. Self-Help Groups often are used in conjunction with specialty treatment and to support individuals seeking help or sustaining their recovery. Power Church, located at 600 N. Broadway St. in Elsa invite you to their Self-Help group meetings every Sunday evening at 7 p.m. This is free of charge.
MCALLEN— First Christian Church hosts a movie night every first Wednesday of each month. Movie nights are open to the public and free of charge. Popcorn and refreshments are served during the showing of the movie.
MCALLEN— Magic Valley Chorus of Sweet Adeline’s Int. meets every Monday at 7 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 12th St. and Fern. All ladies who like to sing are welcome and for more information, call Pat Craig at (956) 519-2446.
MCALLEN — The First Presbyterian Church of McAllen will feature First Presbyterian Church Chancel choir with chamber orchestra performing the Vivaldi Gloria on Dec. 13 directed by music director Pauline Sexton, in the church sanctuary located on the corner of 12th and Austin streets. The recital is free and the public is invited.
MCALLEN — Classical composers of liturgical music have for centuries been inspired to set the familiar words the angels reported to have sung at the Birth of the Christ Child. “Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth to all of good will”. During the second week of Dec. the First Presbyterian Church will host two contrasting settings of this familiar text. At 8 p.m. on Dec. 11, the McAllen Memorial High School Choir, directed by Omar Samaniego, will perform “Gloria” by 20th century composer, John Rutter. On Dec. 13 at 3 p.m., the Chancel Choir of the First Presbyterian Church of McAllen, under the direction of Pauline Sexton, will present the setting of the “Gloria” by the 17th and 18th century Italian master, Antonio Vivaldi. The choir will be assisted by a small chamber orchestra including strings, oboe, trumpet, organ and harpsichord. Vocal soloist for the Vivaldi “Gloria” will be soprano, Pauline Sexton and alto Arianna Astudiollo. There is no charge for either performance and the public is invited. The church is located on the corner of Austin and 12th St.
MISSION — There will be grand evangelistic meetings with Pr. Cesar Cardenas, youth evangelist, every night at 7 p.m. through Nov. 28 on the corner of Inspiration Road and 495.
