EDINBURG — Homicide investigators with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office have filed murder charges against a man who may be hiding out in Reynosa.
Albert Tobias Cuevas, 29, is wanted in connection with the death of 22-year-old Alton resident Arnulfo Calderon Hernandez Jr.
Hernandez's body was found March 21 in the middle of 8 Mile Line between Stewart and Bryan roads, northeast of Mission. His death was first thought to be the result of a hit-and-run but was ruled a homicide after an autopsy.
Sheriff's investigators believe Cuevas shot Hernandez multiple times inside Cuevas' moving 2004 Pontiac Grand Am and then pushed Hernandez out of the car while it was still moving. The Grand Am was later recovered at Cuevas' home at 1106 N. Alton Blvd., Alton.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and seized the vehicle. A search of the car yielded spent projectiles, blood evidence and a shattered door window.
Cuevas confessed to a witness that he had killed Hernandez on the belief that the 22-year-old Alton man was being disrespectful.
DNA testing on the blood evidence gathered from Cuevas' vehicle has been identified as belonging to Hernandez.
The suspected killer is a member of the street gang El Cinco, the same criminal organization to which Hernandez belonged.
Cuevas, a U.S. citizen, is also wanted on charges of violating his probation and felony marijuana possession.
He is considered armed and dangerous.
