Gang member arrested in connection with driveby shooting
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A gang member was arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that left one man with a bullet wound to the face last month in Alamo.
Sheriff's deputies arrested Jose Adalberto Reyes Jr. at Rudy's Country Store & Barbecue in McAllen on Monday.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said the man had four arrest warrants with the county. These were for a felony burglary, a felony assault, a motion to adjudicate and an arrest evasion.
The sheriff said he will likely be arraigned today on attempted murder charges filed by the Alamo police department.
Reyes is a documented member of the Vallucos gang, which is based in Hidalgo County, Treviño said. The gang has about 800 documented members throughout Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy counties. About 73 of them are awaiting trial in Hidalgo County, Treviño said.
"They are a dangerous gang," the sheriff said. "They make their income mostly through drug running and aggravated robberies."

Louisiana State Police picked up a tractor trailer filled with limes, pineapple and 114 bundles of marijuana last week.
Troopers pulled over Floriberto Calderon during a traffic stop along Interstate 10 near Henderson, La.
Calderon had been transporting the produce from McAllen to North Carolina, according to a Louisiana State Police statement.
Calderon, of Burbank, Ill., was booked on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana at the St. Martin Parish Jail.
The marijuana bundles weighed more than 1,455 pounds and carried a street value of more than $1.4 million.
