Local author Bob Dowell has published the final installment Understanding the Bible: Head and Heart — Part Three: Romans through Revelation in his three-book series.

The books give readers a new perspective on the Bible with a prose summary and a poetic summary of each part.

Dowell, a retired English professor, will be signing books from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Barn White, 4317 N. 10th Street in McAllen.

Here’s an excerpt from Romans through Revelation:

From the radiant throne come flashes of lightning and peals

of rumbling thunder periodically

And also seen are seven blazing lamps, the seven spirits of

God, the Holy Spirit symbolically.

In front of the throne is what appears to be a sea of glass,

crystal clear, and at its center stand

The four living creatures: one like a lion, one like an ox, one

like an eagle, and one like a man

Each has six wings covered with eyes front and back, such

are the living creatures everyone

Singing, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who is,

who was, and who is to come.”

Each time the living creatures praise God with these words

the twenty-four elders fall face down

Laying their crowns before the throne and saying, “You are

worthy, O Lord God most renowned

To receive glory and honor and power, for You created all

things, and they so exist by Your will.”

Thus, the Lord God is presented symbolically: He in terms

of emanating light and His power real

In terms of emanating thunder and lightning; the

twenty-four elders represent God’s people sure

For twenty-four is multiple of twelve, symbolic number for

God’s people in apocalyptic literature.
