  Rotting Flesh Factory

The popular haunted house The Rotting Flesh Factory adds horror movie stars to its bag of spooky, scary tricks throughout the month of October in Harlingen. The special guest for Halloween weekend will be "Machete" star Danny Trejo. He'll be at The Rotting Flesh Factory on Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29.

    Fantasy Fest 2011

McAllen’s Barcelona restaurant will host Fantasy Fest 2011, a two-day event, at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, and 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Admission to this party, which is 21 and older, costs $7, and there will be body art, a DJ and costume contests.

  Psycho Ward

Pharr’s El Centro Mall will host Psycho Ward, a haunted house that includes 6,000 square feet of terror, for four nights, running Friday, Oct. 28, through Monday, Oct. 31. There will be four mazes and several theatrical scenes. You can purchase tickets online here.

    Carnival of Fright

Come dressed in your Halloween best and enjoy the Carnival of Fright Halloween festival for free from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Monte Bella Bike Trails and Park in Brownsville. If you print out an invite from Brownsville Living and present the page at the gate, you’ll get in free for three hours, Friday only. Regular admission costs $3. The festival continues throughout the weekend, until Monday, Oct. 31. There will be food booths, arts and crafts, trick-or-treating, a costume contest for children and adults with cash prizes. Proceeds from the event will benefit Ambassadors of Friendship, which provide the elderly with blankets, heaters and socks during the winter.

Happy Hallowe’en: A History of the Spookiest Day of the Year Take a haunted Halloween tour of the Stillman House Museum and learn about the history of the holiday in Brownsville.

Mexican Horror Cinema Posters Exhibit

An exhibit of Mexican horror cinema posters from the Agrasanchez film archives will be on display until the end of the month at the Brownsville Heritage Complex.

  7th Annual Dia de los Muertos Community Altar

Help the Brownsville Historical Association celebrate Dia de los Muertos by placing pictures and mementos on the community altar at the Brownsville Heritage Museum. The altar will remain on display through Nov. 2.

FRIDAY

Historical Happy Hour Night at the Boo-seum

Get dressed up in a costume and get half off of the $10 fee at Historical Happy Hour Night at the Boo-seum at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Brownsville Heritage Complex.

The Crixell Saloon, which was shut down by Prohibition in the ‘20s, has a working tap in the newly renovated museum.

Chamillionaire

San Juan’s The Rink Event Center will host Chamillionaire, the Houston-based rapper responsible for the hit song “Ridin’,” on Friday, Oct. 28.

Chamillionaire will headline a Halloween bash that will also feature a costume contest where attendees can win a Playstation 3. Tickets for this all ages show cost $20 or $30 for VIP.

Fright Fest 

The South Texas Film Alliance will be hosting Fright Fest, a local film festival.

Ten-minute films will be shown at a screening event at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the South Texas College building D auditorium, and winners may receive cash prizes.

STC will also be hosting a haunted house on the campus.

  Dead Celebrity Halloween Party with Sundress McAllen’s Cine El Rey will host a Dead Celebrity Halloween Party at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Headlining the event is Sundress, a psychedelic dream-pop band from Denton. The band released its debut EP in August after forming in 2010. They have played most of Texas’s major music festivals. Also performing are bands Japanese 2 English, Seafoam Green, Vagrants and more. Dress in your best dead celebrity costume and you may win a $100 prize. The event is sponsored by Ouch, My Ego.

  A Spooktacular Halloween in the Park

Harlingen will host “A Spooktacular Halloween in the Park” at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Rangerville Park. The free event includes a haunted trail, Zumba, carnival games and trick-or-treating for children and a cake walk.

Jermaine Dupri

Rapper Jermaine Dupri will be performing a DJ set at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the McAllen Convention Center. His "Living the Life" tour will make a stop at the High School Halloween Bash, where costumed party-goers will have the chance to win $1,000 for first place. The performer is best known either for his career as a successful producer or his former relationship with pop star Janet Jackson. In the '90s, Dupri discovered the acts Kris Kross, Da Brat and Xscape. Later that decade, Dupri had his hand in Destiny Child's first album. He also worked with TLC, Usher and Lil Bow Wow. When Dupri worked with Mariah Carey and her song "We Belong Together," he earned a 2006 Grammy award for Best R&B song. In 2009, Dupri and Jackson ended their seven-year relationship.

Downtown McAllen’s Vaches Lounge will host Juan Gotti, a Houston-based rapper, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Gotti will headline Halloween Bash 2011, which also features G-Flo, Rocko Ryda and many more. This event costs $15 at the door.

El Festival de las Veinte Flores: Day of the Dead Celebration McAllen’s International Museum of Art and Science will host El Festival de las Veinte Flores: Day of the Dead Celebration starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 and continuing through the week. Take a photo with the museum’s Catrinas, the popular skeleton figures used in Dia de los Muertos altars and displays. The IMAS altar will be honoring 10 visionary artists of Mexico.
